VAP - Village Adoption Program

The real India lies in the 7,00,000 villages. If Indian civilization is to make its full contribution to the building up of a stable world order, it is this vast mass of humanity that has….to be made to live again.
- Mahatma Gandhi on village development
Villages have suffered long, gone unnoticed by those who have had the benefit of education. Cities have developed yet villages have remained stagnant without basic amenities even after 64 years of independence.
The Village Adoption Program from VR1 is therefore an attempt to establish healthy contact with the villages and deal with their problems from grass-root level, in a step-by-step approach.
VR1 connects villagers with intellectuals and students from various reputed institutions of India like IIMs, IITs, medical colleges, agricultural universities, etc.,
VR1 forms core committees with the local youth. We provide them with the infrastructure, financial support and working strategies to develop their village. We also award them scholarships depending on their commitment and progress. The local committees are scrutinized by monitoring committees comprising of IITians, professionals and alumni of reputed institutions across India.
The Approach
The distinct areas covered by VAP and the methodologies implemented in the adopted villages are listed below.
Attitude
VR1 believes that right attitudes improve the quality of life.
- VR1 brings a massive change gradually by resolving conflicts and building harmonious relationships among the people of the village.
- Professional workshops are conducted to mobilize the youngsters to leap into action.
Education
Our primary focus is to enhance the educational system.VR1 adopts the entire school and strengthens the learning environment.
Our strategies are -
- Implementing a holistic education of international standards and LMS (Learning Management System) for all the village children.
- Congregating Local teachers to train the children of the village.
- Providing additional resources and teaching materials.
- Grooming the village trainers and teachers by a strong network of professionals.
- Clarifying the doubts through VR1 teams.
- Advocating the cause of adult education.
Health and Hygiene
Our steps towards maintaining Health and Hygiene in the villages include :
- Providing pure drinking water and sanitation facilities.
- Uniting physicians and medicos to form committees and advise the people of the villages on fatal diseases, general hygiene, first aid, child immunization, etc.,
- Providing counseling and guidance on various health issues and preventive.
- Creating awareness on different health issues by using interactive methods like powerpoint presentations in their local languages screened through projectors.
Alternative Energy Sources
- Acting as a bridge between the villages and government agencies to establish solar and bio-mass energy plants, in order to facilitate alternative sources of energy.
Agriculture
Our agricultural plans include :
- Translating the literature of agricultural universities to layman’s language in order to penetrate and propagate its insights.
- Encouraging eco-friendly farming methods like the usage of bio-fertilizers instead of pesticides which cause pollution.
- Providing exposure to external markets and business opportunities.
- Equipping the villages with user friendly software and enabling them to interact directly with agricultural scientists, thus heralding a new era in e-agriculture.
Jobs and career
Our jobs and career plans include :
- Conducting employment oriented workshops to enhance the students' ability to fetch jobs.
- Teaching high quality and advanced courses which suit the needs of specific skill-sets of the current job market.
- Providing qualitative, need-based and literacy-linked vocational skills aimed to create self reliant employers and entrepreneurs.
- Taking specific measures to educate and empower the local women by providing opportunities to excel.
Governance
Our governance ideals are :
- Educating the villagers about the government and non-government schemes and initiatives.
- Assisting the villagers to overcome bureaucratic barriers and alleviating the pain of wandering from desk to desk.
- Setting up a definite system in order to facilitate the flow of information about the ongoing and upcoming events in every village to the outside world.
We may reach the stars, we may have a few of the world’s richest men, Our cities may glow with wealth, but we are not developed in a true sense unless our villages are cherished. The lack of even basic amenities in our villages, where the majority of our population lives is miserable.
The plight of the villages calls for the might of VR1.
